Darned Snowy Weather...

I must be getting old...2009, just seemed to fly by! Here we are, ready for the first Tablescape Thursday of 2010, with Susan of Between Naps On The Porch. Thank you, once again, for the invitation to join you, Susan. Please, make sure you stop by her gorgeous porch to see who else came to the party!

Actually, we were supposed to be in Columbus, tonight, celebrating my husband and his twin's birthday, but due to the snowy weather, we decided to not take a chance of getting caught in a storm, so.....here we are.....in our own dining room while we are watching it snow! We are supposed to get high winds during the night and the temperature with wind chill will be down around -25°/-30°...that is cold, especially when it is so flat, there is nothing to break that wind!

Happy Birthday Howard and Wade! Wonder if they will be upset with me for posting the picture!

I couldn't quite make up my mind what to set the table with, so knowing my husband would say he didn't care other than where's the food. I wanted to use the toile, so I chose cream colored dishes with a sprinkling of red and amber.

The "tablecloth" is a piece of cranberry/cream toile fabric I found at Savers back awhile ago for a couple dollars. It wasn't quite long enough so I put it diagonally on the table. When the leafs are up the table needs a 90" round cloth and they are not easy to find so I make do with what I think will work. This is a huge, old table!

The dishes came from where else, but, the local ARC thrift store. They are a creamy white with a little detail on the rims but no markings on the back. Someone told me they thought they might be Homer Laughlin. I have the dinner, salad and bread plates, soup/cereal and berry bowls, cups and saucers. I have service for four. There is also 1 rimless soup bowl that I will use as a vegetable server tonight and two small platters. I keep my eyes out for more of the rimless soups. Most of the pieces were 25¢-50¢ per piece.

The amber water glassware is TAG from TJMaxx. They were $1.99 each.

The red transferware teapot, sugar and creamer also came from TJMaxx a few months ago. It is from the Queen's Collection.

The salt and pepper shakers are thrift store finds, no more than dollar. Candlesticks were brass when I bought them for 25¢ each, but sprayed them ivory. The flower basket, you have seen before, came from Goodwill.
The napkins, I have had forever and a day. Sterling is my Oneida Afterglow, from Howard's mother.

I thank you for stopping by...I will see you at your table in a few minutes!

A very pretty table -- I have a couple of pieces of toile that I like to lay over a white tablecloth -- gives a little "zing" to the table!

Love the teapot and there is nothing better than white dishes -- you can do so much with them!

The wind is now blowing here -- it looks like it is still snowing and it sounds cold out there! I'm sure the wind chill is down to single digits!

How did you get so lucky to find things like that???!! LOVE the toile and the dinnerware is gorgeous. We still have snow from 3 weeks ago and more last night. It was zero here this morning. I'm tired of this and I love winter usually!

It is snowing so much at your place that it is falling out of your blog...oh I am so funny.
What is it with men that they don't care about the tablescape? If I tell mine we eat with out eyes first he tells me I'm doing it wrong.
You mentioned you liked the old world Santa with the red mittens.
Can I brag here and tell you that I painted him myself. Big grin.

What a pretty table. I love the red toile dishes. I have just a few pieces- not enough for a table setting or anything but am itching to get my hands on more.
