It's Red Hot!

Another week has flown by...it is time to head over to Between Naps On The Porch to see how my blogger friends are dressing their tables for Tablescape Thursday this week. Thank you, again, Susan, for hosting my favorite meme. Please make sure you head over so that you, too, can enjoy

I think something very simple, in red for Tablescape Thursday is in order; the heat this summer has been so oppressive. I have no flowers in the garden that really go with the bright red...so decided to go with the pink hydrangeas that are now turning a pale green, stressed by the unforgiving heat or lack of water, or maybe it is just that time of year that they do this.


I love this checkered plate and was happy to find it in bright red.


I am using my red Waechtersbach dinner plates as charger plates. The next layer is a white Wedgwood Hedge Rose dinner plate, then a red and white checkered Royal Stafford Fine Earthenware England salad/dessert plate and finally a white Oneida Classic soup/salad bowl. The plates are all solid colors except the salad/dessert plate.

The water glass is Colony Harvest milk glass.


The flatware is Rogers/International Gracious 1939. The candle holder is Fitz & Floyd.




The flowers are from my yard. They were Nikko blue hydrangeas when I planted them, our soil is too alkaline so they are mostly pink with tinges of blue...I don't know if they are turning this light green because they are stressed or if it is that time of year when they lose their color. I really like this pale green color, too bad they weren't that color all the time!

Another Thrifted Table...

It is time for Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps On The Porch. Thank you, Susan, for hosting my favorite meme.

I found these dishes at the local ARC Thrift Store awhile back. The china is not old. The stamp on the back says Home Beautiful MA103 Cotillion Fine China; they were made in China. I couldn't find them on the internet, so I know nothing about them. They are white with tiny peach flowers/pale green leaves in a black border with gold around the rim. The set included a dinner, bread/butter plate, soup/salad bowl and saucers, but no cups. I had to scrounge around for 4 white cups!

I couldn't make up my mind if I wanted to use rudbeckias with a few white cone flowers or white hydrangeas for the centerpiece. I took photos with each one before the table was completely set. I do like the little bit of color the rudbeckias add but think I prefer the white; they makes for a more monochromatic table. Which do you like think looks the best?

This little Red Cliff cream pitcher is one of my favorite finds at Savers. The price was 49¢, but when I got home I discovered I was never charged for it!


I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures this week. This has been the hardest, of any of the tables I have done, to photograph. I don't know if it was me, the camera or that there was so much white. I have a friend that is a professional photographer, so I will ask him if I have the camera set right or if I just need lots more practice.

As I look at the table, everything with the exception of the silverware is from a thrift store...and the hydrangeas, they are from my back yard...finally, this year they did really well and I have lots of blossoms for a small bush.

My Favorite Color...

It is almost time to make my weekly pilgrimage to Between Naps On The Porch for Tablescape Thursday. Many thanks to Susan for hosting my favorite meme.

The inspiration for the table this week was this gorgeous green and white tablecloth...actually, anything green could be my inspiration, as it is my favorite color. To enlarge any picture, just click on it.


Dinner plates are Royal Wessex England, with a pretty ivy border. I haven't been able to positively identify the pattern name, but found an e-Bay seller calling them Verdigris Churchill and another Verdigris English Ivy. It really doesn't matter, I like them!


The plain white luncheon plates are unmarked; they appear to be quite old. They have a pretty border with reeds, flowers and pheasants.


The apple green salad plates are part of Waechtersbach's The Fun Factory series.


The green/white/gold dessert plate is Wood & Son Glenwood, which is a favorite of mine.


Plain white coupe soup bowls with a slightly scalloped rim are unmarked. I was told they were probably made by Homer Laughlin, but don't know for sure.


The flatware is the same pattern my parents received as a wedding gift in 1945. It is Rogers/International Gracious, circa 1939. Unfortunately, it wasn't my parents, theirs was destroyed in a house fire almost 40 years ago. I was excited to find the service for 12 on e-Bay recently. A few of the pieces were missing...but it did include grill forks, grill knives, teaspoons, oval soup spoons, round/cream soup spoons, large serving spoons, but nary a salad fork to be seen!


The glassware is crystal found at the thrift store. The maker and pattern are unknown to me, so if anyone has an idea, let me know, please.

I hemmed and hawed about using white hydrangea for the centerpiece. I ended up with just some pothos and Swedish Ivy wrapped around a metal plant pyramid painted green, flanked by white candles in green wooden candlesticks.




I love all the layering!

no water outlet on that side of the house and I forget
to drag the hose out there
