Blue and Yellow Make Me Smile

This has been one of the saddest times of my life...my sweet little Mama died on January 10, 2011, at the age of 89. She will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives she has touched. I am so thankful I was able to spend her last Christmas with her.

I will be joining Between Naps On The Porch for Tablescape Thursday. Thank you, Susan, for hosting this weekly meme.

To enlarge any photo, just click on it.

The inspiration for my table today came from the candlesticks and yellow stemware I found at Savers a few weeks ago.

I started with yellow and blue placemats I have had for several years. The flatware is Rogers Gracious 1939, the pattern I grew up with.

I have started with a plain yellow dinner plate as a charger topped it with blue and white Stratwood Collection Shakespeare Country dinner plate, made in the U.S.A. dinnerware.

Next is a Bordallo Pinheiro salad plate. I can't find the pattern for the salad plate, maybe it is one of their older pieces. If anyone knows what the pattern is, please let me know.

The dessert plate and soup bowl match the dinner plate. Each piece has a different scene.

The yellow beverage glass is from Savers Thrift Store and the little wine stem is Indiana King's Crown/Thumbprint pattern. The blue and yellow Marat napkins, made in France, were found several months ago at Savers.

The layers are always interesting.

The centerpiece is a vintage blue rooster sitting on a pale yellow pedestal plate flanked by the inspirational candlesticks.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. Hope to see you here next week!

Oh, Marigene, I am so sorry about your loss! Mothers are precious, indeed, and I dread the day I can't call or e-mail mine. You'll be in my thoughts. I love that you turned to setting a pretty table as a way to address your grief. Tablescaping IS therapeutic, I find. What unusual yellow glassware! It looks wonderful with your blue and yellow dishes. Hugs!

Another fantastic tablescape that I am sure was inspired by your dear mother. Been e-mailing with Jerry and Judy and been told the service will be Saturday. Hope I get a chance to visit with you if we don't get too much more snow Friday. Still coming down hard today. Sending a hug. Love, bbb

Hello, I haven't come for a visit lately so thought I would stop by today. I was very, very sorry to read of the loss of your dear mother. Oh my. Just reading that really got to me. My mother is 85 and has had two major set backs in the past couple of years. She is still doing pretty well for her years, but has def. slowed down. I love spending as much time with her as possible and talk on the phone all the time. Bless you as you deal with your mother's memories. I know they will keep you going.
Your tablescape is very, very pretty. I too love blue and yellow. i especially love the vintage rooster sitting up high on the pedestal. Such a great centerpiece. Your dishes are very pretty. :)

I am truly sorry to hear about your mother, Marigene! My mother passed away at the very same age five years ago and I still think of her almost every day.

I am so very sorry about your mom. It has been 8 months for me now and I want you to know that I do understand how painful and sad you feel. You may find the most odd things will trigger your sadness and tears. I think you just have to let yourself feel what you feel when you feel it. We never are ready to lose our mothers, no matter how old we are.

Your table is beautiful. I love the blue and yellow together. The candlesticks were made for those placemats.

Your story made me cry. I had no idea you lost your Mom so recently. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Please know that she is in a better place and watching over you as your guardian angel.

That being said, the tablescape this week is great! My school colors were gold/yellow and blue! I really like that color combination as well.

The napkins are beautiful too. And, what can I say about the rooster. I love roosters. An inviting table for me to come over and have a meal with you. Perhaps, brunch on Sunday? hehe

Hang in there Marigene! I am in Arizona praying for you and your family!

Many Hugs!

Marigene -
I am so sorry to learn of your loss. For me, this was a very lovely post, because blue and yellow are my mother's favorite colors. As a matter of fact, her whole house is blue and yellow. She is with us for a couple of months because she is still living independently, but can't drive in the snow. I know that these are the days to treasure.
Hugs,

P.S. I used my mother's dish pattern in my tablescape tonight, and every time I use it, I feel close to her. This pattern was used during some of the happiest interludes of my life, and I love using it to this day.

Your tablescape is lovely. I would be interested in finding oval placemats in our area. Perhaps you could share the brand name or company that manufactured these?
Thank you for your sweet comment and visit On Crooked Creek. Stop by again, soon!
