National Tartan Day

After reading a post by Babs of Upstairs Downstairs the other day, I decided to do a tartan table in honor of National Tartan Day, April 6. If you haven't checked out her delightful blog, you really should!

To enlarge any photo, just click on it.

The only real tartan I have is a square one from Goodwill a while back. I think it may have been meant to be used as a kerchief/babushka back in the 1950's-1960's. It makes a nice square for a table, though. The main colors are red and blue. There are very thin white and yellow lines of yarn running through, too.

I kept the table very, very simple, almost stark, so that you could enjoy the tartan pattern. If anyone knows this pattern by name, please let me know what it is.

I have used only a solid red Waechtersbach dinner plate and a dark blue Design House soup/salad bowl.

The stemware is Fostoria Monet in the dark blue. It was manufactured between 1985-1986.

The napkins are solid red cotton. I have used the flatware many times, Oneida Afterglow, circa 1958.

The centerpiece is a pillar candle in an urn with votives surrounding it. The candle looked too bare, so I added a little bit of lambs ear to jazz it up.

The place setting.

The stack...pretty sad, isn't it!

A view of the entire table.

I will be linking up to
Blue Monday at Smiling Sally
Rednesday at It's A Very Cherry World
Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps On The Porch.

I appreciate and thank you, very much, for taking the time to visit my blog! Hope to see you here again soon.

Very very nice. Even a color-blind male can appreciate all the color. Maybe you yanked the material off some salty old bagpiper.

I love plaid (Tartans) but don't have any. Now I'm on the lookout for a great scarf like this one. It's simple plates but with that plaid I think it's perfect. Love those glasses...what a pretty shape! hugs, Linda

Yours is the 2nd blog I read today about National Tartan Day. Who knew! I love the dark blue plates and glasses, they are so gorgeous with the tartan. Now, I am in the mood for bagpipe music. Our neighbor two houses away plays them and his wife makes him go outside to practice, so that is fun for us!

What a wonderful tartan table Marigene! All of the dishes and glasses are just perfect for this beautiful tartan linen! Great job! Lambs Ear is Lia's favorite flower in our flower bed. She takes extreme care in making sure it is watered just right. She says it is so soft and cuddly! LOL

I love tartans. They remind me of that Scot that I married. I think this is such a warm table with colors that go just perfectly toether for it.

And there's nothing sad about the stack. LOL Sometimes, the tablecloth should get the right to steal the show! Yours does.

Despite being in Catholic school from 1st grade through college, I am still fond of plaid! :-) I never thought I would say that, but I am. I had never heard of National Tartan Day, but I think it's a great concept! I like your tartan square, and I think it's the red and blue together like that that I find so appealing. Perfect pairing with the dishes and stemware! Hey...stark can be a good thing. I am slowly but surely learning this. I posted what I thought to be a decidedly stark table last week (although hardly anyone else agreed with that description of it!), and I really liked it. Stark is the new Baroque! :-) Have a happy, happy Easter!!!
