Breakfast In Pink And Green
This week my inspiration came from Goodwill...Franciscan Desert Rose at a price I couldn't pass up. The dinner plates were 99¢ each, all the other pieces 49¢ each and then a 25% senior discount. A 5 piece placesetting, service for 4 at $8.85, who could/would pass that deal up? I don't know where I will store them, but will find a spot. I think they are all older pieces, meaning none were produced in China.
The table is set for breakfast, that is why the cup/saucer were used. I don't have much in the way of pink, so I have started with green placemats from my friend, Kathleen. I added pink linen napkins along with the Oneida Afterglow flatware.
I am not sure of the maker/pattern of the glassware. They were also found at Goodwill for 99¢ each less the 25% senior discount.
The little bee skep syrup pitcher is one I picked up a few years ago at a yard sale for a quarter.
The centerpiece is a geranium from the porch and a set of pink, cream and green candlesticks.

Brings back hundreds of memories of growing up around all the holidays. My Mom had those as her dishes. Our big family enjoyed the holiday dinners every year until her death in 1998.She got them as a wedding gift in 1949.They belong to my oldest sister now. I got both Grandmother's sets so it's o.k.,no feeling sorry for myself--TeHe
What a beautiful table and what a heck of a deal on the dishes. I like the pinks you used. I didn't think I would, but I do very much.
Fantastic as always!!
Marigene -- I am loving your table and the pinks and greens are perfect together. I would have totally brought those dishes home at that price :)
Beautiful geranium...mine fell victim of our frost last week :(
Blessings!
Gail
love the pink.....i've always liked that pattern....i especially like the glasses....those little flowers are sweet...
love,
your baby sister
Oh, I love that Franciscan pattern! One of my BFFs from high school had that pattern, and I used to help set the table at their house when I would spend the night. I like the other elements you added to the table, too, and that little pitcher is so cute. I have similar glasses to yours, but the shapes are a tiny bit different. Good job on your tablescape, Marigene!
XO,
Sheila
Hi Marigene, I just came by to visit and see that you are going to join my party again this week:) Maybe you already did and I missed it... so thanks in advance!
You have a very nice GW! Mine gives me a 10% and their prices are NO WAY NEAR as low!!!
My mother almost got the apple dishes way back in the 60's, she couldn't decide on the red or the pink. So she went with the rooster set instead. Nope... I didn't get them :[

My MIL had that same pattern! So pretty in pink :)
Deals like that are when it's great to be a "senior American." You really scored out there in "The Middle of Nowhere"!!! (I just love that!)
You did good, both on the price and a beautiful table. Dianne
My Goodwill seems very expensive too. I rarely buy anything there for that reason.
Love the table and love pink and green together.

Amazing get! Congratulations! Your candlesticks tie all you colors together so beautifully. I think that you are going to get a lot of mileage out of your new treasures. Thank you for inviting us to your table. Cherry Kay
How do you do it? No one comes across better things at the best prices than you and then you put it all together and it just works. You must have a barn for all your "happieS".
You got an amazing buy - great china, classic pattern.

Everything looks so well coordinated. I love the colors, so fresh and springy and I love your candle holders. You really got a great buy on those plates....Christine
Franciscan always brings back such fond memories. Both my grandmother and my mother had sets of this and I love it all.
Hi Marigene!!
I want to shop at your Goodwill and Savers. The prices are fantastic and so is the selection. Your table looks great. My aunt uses and collects these dishes. I have ask her when they stopped making them in the US. The pieces made today are made in England. Great buys all the way around. Oh and I love the syrup pitcher too.
Marigene I love these dishes! I found some serving pieces at a yard sale and I love them but every time I see plates they are soooo expensive I can't pay that for them...lets just say one plate more then your whole set of 4 place settings. I love the roses and pink and green. So maybe I will find some plates one of these days! I'm going to go look at your post again! I really love this table. hugs, Linda
I can see why you couldn't pass those up! The pink and green is very pretty! And, we always find room, don't we? Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely love this tablescape. I just love pink and green together. The Franciscan Desert Rose china is beautiful. I am amazed you got them at the Goodwill. You got a great deal!

♫♫ Lucky-Dog~Lucky-Dog ♫♫ Those Franciscan Desert Rose dishes were the same ones my Grandmother had. I never found out who inherited them, but it wasn't me.
DON'T put them in the microwave or the dishwasher if they are truly the older ones. You'll get crazing & cracks in the surface something awful. My friend in AL had both the new & the old sets & got them mixed up, after a big family gathering. They ALL went into the dishwasher with HOT water & the older ones were damaged. She still uses them but was just sick for not paying better attention.
fondly,
Rett
p.s. I think your stems may be from the Princess House designs. Not positive.
Oh Marigene! Very pretty, your signature color is becoming green. You find some great ways to display it. I love those glasses. And what a deal on the DR dishes! We still need to go thrifting together sometime.

I remember when these dishes were the "ones to have"! Who knew they would set such a pretty table now! I love pink and green together. Thanks for the tip about my little wine glasses. My husband paid a dime each for 8 of them. He was hoping they were Fostoria, but they certainly do look like the Anchor Hocking. Either way, we've both gotten some deals it seems!
I am still in love with my Desert Rose. I have had my service for nearly forty years. I never buy the new stuff/ UGH!
