White Against Red

I finally got all the Christmas taken care of, just in time to be hit with a nasty chest cold. I was flat in bed for 3 days, but am feeling so much better now. I also found a few minutes to go through dishes...the local thrift store was thrilled to be the recipient of three huge loads that found a way onto their shelves. Now to weed out some glassware and linens...

I didn't have a color theme picked out for this week's table. I just wanted something bright and cheery. I have had this red and white tablecloth for a couple years so decided it was time to use it or lose it!

Using all white dishes was pretty easy after looking in the dish cupboard. I started with a white metal charger plate made in Italy. To that I added a Gibson Regalia, circa 2004-present dinner plate. Next I added Johnson Brothers Snowhite Regency, circa 1968-2003 salad plate and rimmed soup bowl.

The red hemstitched linen napkin seemed to be a great match with the tablecloth.

I used clear stemware...both maker and pattern are unknown at this time. I need to take a couple days to look up some of the stemware I have...it seems like something always comes up when I think I have a few minutes.

The centerpiece is a white ironstone compote filled with lemons, red candlesticks topped with white candles.

The rim shot!

As I sat back looking at the table, it occurred to me that everything was purchased at a thrift store with the exception of the sterling flatware, candles and lemons!

Thank you for your visit today, hope you will return again...

I will be joining these parties and hope you will too!

Hi Marigene,

Love that red plaid tablecloth! And you sure have the neatest dishes to layer.

From what I have been seeing, you are lucky you got off with 3 days of chest cold. Probably because you were able to go to bed.

Savers near me is not open yet, no signs, just working. Will let you know.

Love the red and white. I have and LOVE the Johnson Bros Regency too. So far, I only have the plates and bread and butters, but I keep looking. I love how the rim adds so much to any plate stack and that the plates are a smaller size so they can be used with a lot of different plates. So cheerful! Dianne

Sorry to hear you've been sick, Marigene! I don't know if this up and down weather of ours is the culprit, but there sure is a lot of crazy stuff going around. Glad to hear you're feeling back in the pink. Red & white are definitely cheery, and you deserved that to make up for your days flat on your back!

One day, when I'm a grown up and there is no threat of one of my boys running into our dining room table, I'll set a nice table like that too. Just you wait!

Very pretty! Just the right amount of red. I love the layering of plates (those chargers are wonderful)! You are the first person I have heard say they have gotten rid of some dishes. I have that fear that the day after I give them up, I will need them. I know it's silly!

I hope you continue to get better!

Red and white is always so pretty. I think red is such a happy color and I love how your white plates look all stacked up. Sorry about the cold. I caught one over Christmas and something as simple as a cold can certainly take you down, can't it?? I'm glad you are feeling better.

I love the pop of yellow that the lemons add to your wonderful tablescape. The charger is a great design. I've been looking for a great white charger..that's affordable. The search continues. I'm with you...I always have the best of intentions to search for information on my collections. Most of the time, it just doesn't happen. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

Hi Marigene!

Glad you are feeling better. I HAVE to get my flu shot, thinking any day now I might get sick.

I also need to toss some stuff. Thinking I should go through what I don't use, want or need, and take some picture for a post. That way at least I will have picture of it.

xoxo Bunny Jean

I like how yours came out. Thank you for sharing.
