An Almost Halloween Table

Halloween is one of my least favorite holidays. I had about made up my mind I wouldn't do one this year, then changed it at the last minute. Unfortunately, the weather has been dark, rainy and typical of late October in my part of Kansas...just when the trees start having vibrant colors we usually get this crappy weather! I apologize for the quality of the photos this week...I had to use the light from the chandelier so there is a glare in some of the photos.

I bought an extra long white, orange and black table runner at Savers a few months ago. It was plenty long enough to cut in half to use across the table, so that is what I did. Black napkins seemed a better choice than orange for some reason. The flatware is Oneida Louisiana.

Using black woven chargers I started stacking orange and white dishes. The orange dinner plate is from Better Homes & Gardens a couple years ago at WalMart. On top of that are white salad plates I found at a local second hand store, Blackhorse Trading Co. for 50¢ for 6. The pumpkin dessert plate and soup bowl were found at either Goodwill or Savers.

The black glass stemware was also found at Savers. If held up to sunlight they are actually dark purple. I am always hoping to find black glass when out thrifting, it is hard to find.

The centerpiece consists of two tall candlesticks holding black raven candles and an almost black metal candle holder with an orange candle.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit today. I hope you will return next time.

I will be joining Let's Dish/Cuisine Kathleen.

I'm not so much a fan of Halloween either - but your table is fabulous. I adore those pumpkin dishes - oh how I wish we have a Savers here - I'd definitely shop there.

I think of this as more of a pretty fall table rather than Halloween. I'm loving what you did with the runner, very creative! I wish we had a Savers here, your dishes are so festive. :)

Marigene you did a really nice table! I love the runners and how clever to cut in half like that. The black candle holder is very cool! I think its a fun table and not too spooky or over the top!

I think this is the perfect adult table for Halloween. The glasses do look black in the photo. The ravens add just the right touch of 'spooky'. xo

It's funny that you didn't want to do this post. I think it's one of your best. Very striking.

Marigene, love the runners crosswise on your table. Great idea! I need to try that on our oval table. Your fall table looks inviting.

Halloween is not a favorite of mine either, that's why I only use whimsical Halloween things. I like what you created in this tablescape, especially the candle holders!

I love the runner, Marigene, and those pumpkin bowls are just so cute! I haven't gotten out any of my Halloween decor, only my Fall things. Happy Halloween!

I don't do a lot for Halloween either, just keep reusing the few things I have. I like your table runners, no matter the season.

Your black birds are creepier than mine! LOL
I adore that Oneida Louisiana flatware...how pretty!

We both have those same pumpkin bowls...I got mine at Walmart & I'm glad I did. They have worked for soup, fruit, ice cream & also just nibbles. Very versatile this time of year.

Very neat table, Marigene!

I really like how you placed the runners and your perfect color scheme. The raven adds just the right amount of spookiness - great job!

Marigene,
We don't celebrate Halloween here on our side of the Prairie, but we do pass out candy to the neighborhood children!!!
I adore how you used the runner across the table!!!
Great use of accessories for a Halloween themed tablescape!!!
Fondly,
Pat

Those candles are so cool! They almost look like they are made of rod iron or something, not wax. Love your table runners too-glad you decided to do a Halloween table! Jennifer

Marigene,
I really like this table, It speaks to Halloween, but doesn't scream it. It's really a more sophisticated take on the theme. I really like the starkness of the white, orange and black on the runners. Very cool! Dianne

Oh, I love the candles. I thought they were stuffed birds. They are fabulous but I would have a hard time lighting them. Your runners are gorgeous too. Gladly our weather has turned to nice today so it should be fun for the kiddies.

For someone who isn't all that fond of Halloween, you did a marvelous job here. I'm not a particular fan either, but somehow I seem to accumulate decorative pieces.

It doesn't scream Halloween, very Fallish. Love the runners, looks neat! I got my black glasses at Pier One a few years ago.

I am late to the game of seeing your table. For someone who doesn't like Halloween you did a good job. I love the purply black goblets. I only have some black hobnail plastic ones. I love the runners. I always seem to have trouble knowing how to use them. Also love the ravens. Joni

Great table, Marigene. If you hadn't told me those ravens were candles, I would never have guessed. Those are great, and I love the way you perched them on the candlesticks. The pumpkin bowls are so cute, and the stripes on the table give it all such a fun look. laurie
