This week's inspiration came from some square placemats. I am sick of looking out the windows and seeing leafless trees, brown grass, etc. I know it is winter...therefore I would much rather see a blanket of white than depressing browns. The placemats are bright and cheery wearing lots of yellows, greens and white. The backs are a solid sunflower yellow. There was a sticker on them that said Vera, but nowhere else do I see her name, so it may have been someone's wishful thinking. I paired them with napkins of the same colors. The napkin ring is also a bright yellow.
I started the placesetting with a bright green cabbage leaf charger and topped it with a bright yellow cabbage leaf plate and cabbage leaf bowl.
The flatware is Oxford Hall with bright yellow handles.
The glassware is a bright green Ivima 1895 hobnail stem.
The soup will be served from the yellow ceramic tureen.
Vegetable Chowder Recipe
32 oz. frozen hash browns
1 package chopped broccoli
½ head cauliflower, chopped
1 cup chopped carrots
1 cup chopped celery
½ cup chopped onions
2 cans chicken broth (about 4 cups)
2 cans diced tomatoes
4 chicken bouillon (I use 4 packets sodium free bouillon)
4 T. chopped parsley
Cook all until vegetables are tender, about 35 minutes. In the meantime, dice 1 lb. Velveeta cheese. When vegetables are tender add the cheese. Turn heat down to low, let cheese melt. Add 2 cups milk. Warm, but be careful not to burn cheese or curdle the milk.
Serve and enjoy!
This recipe is from my friend, Norma, but I have modified it slightly.
Sorry for the photo, it was taken with the chandelier on...I knew I should have done this for lunch, when the light was good!
Thanks for taking the time to visit today...do come back the next time.

Bravo, another perfectly delightful tablescape that brightens up this dreary, foggy day. bbb
Your sunny table setting is perfect for the dreary days of January. We finally had some blue skies and sunshine. I was beginning to wonder if all of January was going to be wet and cold.
Like the details of your table. Fun flatware.
Love, love, love it! OMG the yellow and green are so cheerful! This will certainly be one of my favorites of all you've done...
Love you,

I always love it when I see a recipe here, Marigene :) Beautiful cabbage ware and the yellow leaf bowls make such pretty vessels for that delicious chowder!
Marigene,
Your tablescape is stunning, dear friend!!! . . .and yes, all the brown reminds me of late Autumn, but not Winter on the Prairie! Guess we should be grateful that we don't have the 30 below 0 that North Dakota is predicting for tonight!!!
Your chowder looks and sounds divine!!! Cozy, warm, inviting...Prairie Hospitality at its finest!!!
Fondly,
Pat
OH my goodness I just love all that yellow!! It's my happy color and your table is just so cheerful and happy! Even on a cloudy day it would be like sunshine in your home! Gorgeous colors...Love them! They are so cheery and welcoming. Plus I have to say I agree with you on the sick of seeing leafless trees....if it snows one more time I just may stow away in my daughters suitcase when she goes back to her home in florida!
Marigene, This table is just what we need. A ray of sunshine in this dull season. I love the yellow cabbage dishes and the placemats are perfect. I wish we had a Savers. Is that like a Sam's or Costco? I have seen several people refer to Savers.

What a lovely, cheery table! The yellow cabbage pieces are wonderful, I've never seen anything like them before.
