I am joining Cuisine Kathleen for her Farewell To Summer Table Challenge. When I think of summer's end in Kansas, I think of the sunflowers (Kansas' state flower) that grow along every roadway in east/central Kansas, especially the secondary roads. Must be summer isn't quite over as I haven't seen any of these beauties, yet, this year. I can tell you the temperatures, which have been in the high nineties the last 10 days or so tell me summer is still going strong in Kansas!
The table cloth is a deep golden yellow which is the color of some sunflowers. I topped it with a red, green and sunflower yellow striped runner.
The sunflower napkins are the only thing I could think of to go with the table I had in mind. I have used yellow wooden bead napkin rings.
The plate stack begins with an overly large barn red dinner plate (Max Studio Home) found at TJMaxx on sale for a dollar each. The next layer is a white Wedgwood Hedge Rose dinner plate which is topped with a bright yellow sunflower glass salad/dessert plate.
The simple highball glassware is a citrine Artland Iris, recently bought at Savers. They were $1.99 for 2, I got them on senior day, so with the 25% discount they came to $1.49 for a pair. Unfortunately, there were only 6 of them. I also found 4 iced tea stems for the same price...they are huge!
The fun 1970's flatware is Oxford Hall Perfectionware, just love them, they make me smile!
The centerpiece is an old Bennington Pottery pitcher filled with silk sunflowers...even the local florist didn't have any sunflowers today! The wooden candle stick is another Savers find. I think the little custard bowls that I am using for salt/pepper may also be Bennington Pottery. They were all found at Goodwill for a few dollars at most.

Sunflowers have really been on my mind this summer. They are such happy flowers.Glad to learn they bloom in Kansas too. I relate to the hot temps you are having. Last week was a brutal week in Alabama.

Marigene - To have that flatware! As you probably know, yellow is my favorite color and I am so wanting yellow flatware. I also love the glass sunflower plates. Sorry about the temperature - here in Northern California, the temperature is around 65 degrees. No rain in site - everything is dry and brown. But at least it is cooler than your part of the country. Have a good day.

This is such a pretty tribute to late Summer. Sunflowers and black-eyed Susan's are my favorites in August. The runner down the middle of the table ties all of the colors used on the table together beautifully. The glass sun flower plates with the pretty napkins bundled in the beaded napkin rings are lovely. Beautiful table Marigene, a challenge well met!!

I plant sunflower seeds every year, but this year the squirrels and chipmunks dug them up. So I have been buying them at the farmers market and they are so cheery. I love your sunflower themed table. Did you make the napkins? I have similar fabric so thought maybe. Enjoy the rest of summer!

This is a perfect summer setting. I think the glass sunflower plates are unique and you found wonderful napkins to fit the theme. How come I can never find great bargains like the tumblers you've found? I love glass that has little bubbles in it. And the yellow flatware is as "in" now as it was in the seventies. A very happy tablescape.

Count me as another one who loves sunflowers and thinks that they are the quintessential summer flower. How fortunate for you that they are your state flower!
This table is perfect is so many ways, but my favorite part of all is probably the sunflower print napkins. I love those and would love to have some like that.

Your weather temps. are more like what ours usually are in August here in N.C. For some reason, we've had the most beautiful, mostly mild and pleasant summer in years. I hope we don't get slammed this winter. :)
I'm sorry about the loss of your cousin; the butterfly story is so sweet. My dad has kidney problems, too, and has been on dialysis since last November. It's hard. Thank you for your visit, Marigene, and I hope you have a great week!

You create the best plates stacks. You have inspired me to really check out the plate rims and it is hard to find plates with such detailed edges. The glass sunflower is beautiful. I love the rustic, looks like it was left out in the rain, flower vase (pitcher).
