January Blues

We have only seen the sun a couple times in the last few weeks...I don't function well without it.
I wanted to do a bright table, but not too bright. I can always depend on the cobalt Artland Iris to provide brightness on the table!

I started with a cotton striped tablecloth in oatmeal/blue. I used blue gingham napkins in a lotus flower fold so I could put the soup bowl in it.

I started the setting with a woven charger, oatmeal dinner plate, unknown who the maker is, a blue BP cabbage salad plate and soup bowl.

The glassware is Artland Iris and the stainless flatware is International, I don't know the pattern.

The centerpiece is a collection of Iittal Festivo candlesticks. They were made by Finnish artist Timo Sarpaneva. The candlesticks are circa 1967. They have 1-8 rings. I have all except the 7-ringed one. The candles are round, apparently made specifically for these candlesticks. They are perfect for a winter tablescape as they kind of look like ice. I am sure you will find them in future tablescapes! I first saw these candlesticks on Tanya's blog Dans le Lakehouse and fell in love with them...and her kitchen!

Thanks for visiting today, hope you will find the time to come back next time.

Ohhhhhhh lovely in blue and white - just perfect for winter. I'm working on aqua, white and silver right now - we'll see how it comes out. The candle holders and candles are perfect for winter - though I can imagine them with colored candles in the spring and summer too. I love love love the napkin fold - clever idea - and I think you will be seeing that in my future table posts too (I love to snitch good ideas). Did you serve a nice hot soup for dinner - that would be perfect for winter. How is your snow this year - getting any? We've had frost for several days and now are back to our usual rain - and I'm glad.

You know how I love checks and plaids so this will be a favorite in 2016. How lucky we are that we will have many more tablescapes during the new year. bbb

I don't do good without the sun out shinning bright either. I just can't function at home with no sun.
Love your blue cabbage bowls I have started collecting the green ones when I find them at thrift stores

Hi Marigene :)

Those candle sticks are really unusual! Perfect for a New Year tables cape looking like ice as well.

I hope the sun comes out for you more and I hope you've gotten a good start for the year.

hugs to you,
rue

Beautiful blue tablescape. I didn't know they had blue cabbage dishware. The candle holders are so elegant and pretty. This table will certainly chase away the Winter blues.

Those candlesticks are quite interesting. Love the blues, hope you're getting some sun!

Loved the table-scape. I will have to do something like that today. The clouds and rain have taken over the sky here too! Have you tried putting 'full spectrum' light bulbs in your lamps? It really helps lift the mood when the sun isn't allowed to peek through.

What a lovely tables cape. I love the napkin "nest." I tried folding napkins like that but they didn't seem quite right, but this is a creative way to use them!

I have not been functioning well for quite a while, with or without the sun. The soothing sight of your your pretty blue and white winter tablescape brings a happy smile to my face. I am in love with the wintry icy look of the Festivo candlesticks. They are fascinating. I had never seen them before, now I will be looking for some every time I am out and about at the thrift stores.
