Grey Day!

This is not my usual table...it is lacking in color!
The inspiration for this table were the grey dinner plates recently found at Savers. I looked at them, then started to pass when I got into a conversation with another shopper about them. She was looking for something that would go more with browns...I decided to buy them as grey is pretty hard to find.

I started the table with a solid black Vera tablecloth after looking through my stash and not finding anything with grey. I did find very pale grey Cynthia Rowley napkins, so decided to use silver/clear icy beaded napkin rings.

Each placesetting started with a black woven charger, a white Royal Stafford extra large dinner plate, grey Design Ideas Rilling dinner plate (the paper tag on the back calls them loden, but they are definitely grey), a Dalmeny salad plate and finally a Bordallo Pinheiro white cabbage leaf soup bowl.

The glassware is a smokey grey stem.

The flatware is Cambridge in grey pearl.

Centerpieces are always hard for me to put together...a couple of black/white candlesticks with white candles, faux white roses in an urn.

The rim shot.

Thanks for taking the time from your busy day to visit...it is very much appreciated.

In the first big picture, the tablecloth is bright navy blue but then looks black in the other pictures. I really like this tablescape. bbb

You took an ordinary grey dinner plate and made an entirely gorgeous tablescape from a single hue, dear friend!!!

I think this is the most formal table you have ever set. Black tie!
All of your other setting have been so colorful. A nice change, really!
Thank heavens I am not the only one that is addicted to playing with dishes. :) I'm glad you like the ones I just found. No other pieces though...just the plates.

Marigene,
You are right, this is not a typical table setting that you do. But it worked out great. The men would definately like this one! Oh....the candlesticks...love them. Sue Z.

I ADORE the candle sticks and the entire table. Grey is such an under appreciated color when it comes to a tablescape and you did it proud. Well done!

Love the gorgeous stack of plates, specially the new gray ones! I would have gotten them myself, lovely! I don't have anything gray either. I love the flatware too. Your tables are always fabulous!

When I first read "gray", I was so surprised as that didn't sound like you at all. However, Marigene, your stack of dishes is so pretty and you still added some color. I love your candlesticks and your faux roses. Your table is always an inspiration.

Hi Marigene, After seeing the results of this table setting I’m sure you are happy you didn’t let the plates pass you by. You always know just how to pull everything together. Beautiful.
Hope you are having a great summer.

I would have bought them too! I haven't been to Savers in about a year, may be time! Looks like a MC candlestick!

Hi Marigene,

This table is so pretty and elegant!! I like all your plates, but the Dalmeny salad plates are my very favorite. They're gorgeous!! I also love the gray pearl flatware -- so pretty. Your gray napkins, smokey gray stemware, and silver napkin rings are all lovely, as well. Once again, you've put together a first rate tablescape! :)

I hope you have a great weekend, Marigene!

Big Hugs,

Denise
