Seeing Red...

Another very simple dinner table at In the Middle of Nowhere. For Tablescape Thursday you will be seeing red again, as it seems to be on my brain lately. This week will be a few pieces of red transferware. I am also combining this post with Thrifty Thursday. Thank you Susan and Leigh for hosting. You may click on the photos to enlarge them.

This 9" tall Hull footed floral basket I used for the centerpiece was found Monday at Goodwill for $1.98 with a 25% senior discount so I only had to pay $1.74 for it! I think someone priced it a little low, but...who am I to go complain to management? I realize it isn't one of the older, more desireable pieces, but...it is still a nice collectible piece. The girl at the checkout wanted to know what I was going to do with the "cute little basket"...told her I was thinking of putting a small pot of ivy in it...well it ended up being the centerpiece for tonight.

The black metal candle holder were 50¢ and 98¢ so with the discount they both came to a little over a dollar. The candles were on the discounted shelf at Tuesday Morning last week for less than a dollar each. I am not sure why they look tilted in the photo, they really aren't!

The dinner and salad plates are Johnson Brothers 'Old Britain Castles' from TJMaxx.

The soup/cereal bowl is Queens and were found at Home Goods as were the sugar and creamer.

The coffee mugs are also Johnson Brothers; the clear water goblets were from Goodwill last week. The price was 37¢ each.

The Wm. Rogers silverplate is from my late mother-in-law...I am still trying to find out the name of the pattern but haven't had much time lately to devote to it.

The little bird salt and peppers are a recent purchase at TJMaxx. The tablecloth is from an estate sale last summer and napkins I have had for many years.
My sister sent me these little bottles with different sized shaker tops for my birthday. They are 3" high, the holder is 5¼" tall and the holder is electro-plate. I had no clue what they were used for so I asked our resident expert, Bill of Affordable Accoutrements and he thought they may be shakers intended for cinnamon, nutmeg, and cocoa (to be used to sprinkle in/on cups of coffee. If anyone else has any knowledge about them I would be happy if you shared it.

Here are the tops of the shakers. A couple of them have little star holes.

Thank you for visiting and commenting; it is very much appreciated.

Hello Mimi, Thank you for your visit yesterday. I tried to get to everyone but... The breakfast room belongs to my daughter. I did pick out the toile wallpaper and curtains (Laura Ashley) when she told me she wanted to paint her kitchen and breakfast room red. I am showing the whole area on Monday. She has several pieces of red transfer ware and it is vintage. A gift from her MIL. The cookie jar does not have a name.

Your table is beautiful with the transfer ware dishes. I love the look. You are a thrifty shopper and it looks like a million dollars. I love the shaker star holes. How quaint.

Have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Jeanne

Ok...now you just left me one of the nicest comments about my silly rooster painting. I know, I know ..."why would she sound sooo cocky?", you say. Not trying to be. I just really feel that way when my father used to paint cathedrals with works of art (frescoes) throughout. So, I guess you didn't see the post on his work. Go take a look and then you'll know why I kind of feel silly just painting roosters. Thanks for your kind remarks. I will be sure to come back often. Love red transfer ware. I haven't started collecting yet. I am a Kings Crown Ruby thumbs print dinnerware collector and tired of it. Would love to start on this journey of collecting next. Verrry Pretttty!

I think you're silverplate pattern could be: 'Cotillion' c. 1937 Wm Rogers. I don't have any of the pattern at the moment. It is very pretty!
