Copeland Spode Valencia

I am so excited to be part of Cuisine Kathleen's first weekly meme, Let's Dish, every Wednesday at 7 P.M.! Knowing Kathleen like I do, it is going to be a fun, interactive meme...some come along and join in the fun! Thank you, Kathleen for doing this on Wednesday evening! Make sure you stop by Kathleen's blog for a fun time!

I apologize for the pictures, a flash had to be used on most photos as it has been dark and rainy here for the past 3 days...3 more days to go until we will see the sun! Any photo may be enlarged by clicking on it.

The inspiration for tonight's table was the creme soup bowls/underplates I found on eBay, recently...Copeland Spode Valencia. There are no chips and very little crazing, almost like they have never been used. I was sucked into bidding on them because of the colors, my favorite blue/green combination against the creamy white. I was the only bidder, getting them for $4.95 each! Replacement, Ltd. is asking $89.95 for the flat cream soup bowl only! I feel like I got the deal of the year! They have a band around the middle of the bowl that is described as a Chelsea Wicker pattern, a band of the grapes is under that.

A blue tablecloth was layered with a lace cloth. Napkins are white with blue/green cotton with what looks like a blueberry pattern. They kind of mimic the pattern on the soup bowls, which are blue and green grapes.

The setting itself consists of Vera Bradley charger plates, a Wedgwood Hedge Rose dinner plate, Bordallo Pinheiro Frog Service salad plate and finally the star of the show, Spode Valencia.

The flatware is Oneida Afterglow, circa 1956. I used the International Silver Frontenac, circa 1903, cream soup spoons, too.

The green glassware is Libbey Duratuff Gibralter pattern in juniper.

The rim shot.

Thank you for taking the time to visit today, hope that you will come back again.

I love this color scheme as well. It is so bright and cheerful. I could be on a deck in Maine having a lovely brunch sitting outside with this table. Reminds me of the ocean. Your choices are impeccable, and what a deal on eBay. You did good!

My eye first attached itself to the Vera Bradley charger...what a great piece! Then it drifted to the Valencia Cream Soup and under plate...wow! just WOW! I love the scalloped fluted side, and the pattern is gorgeous. This is a beautiful tablescape... You've outdone yourself. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

Hi Marigene, Your table is so pretty and that rim shot is just gorgeous! Blue and white with a touch of green--I love it. I know Replacements is so expensive, but when you sell to them you only get a tiny fraction of the price they sell the pieces for! I was going to sell them some china but the price they quoted me was less than one tenth of the price they were asking for the pieces, and I would have had to pay shipping. So, I kept the dishes--I guess it was meant to be. Have a nice evening. Linda

$4.95 each on the cream soup bowls??!?!?! Seriously?!???!? Uh, yeah....you DID get the bargain of the century!!! Wow!!! Congratulations! They're beautiful! The whole table is!!! Sorry you're still getting this wet stuff, too. I keep thinking I'm going to have to learn to swim pretty soon if this keeps up! I keep hearing that sump pump go off and just hope & pray it doesn't fail on us again. It has done it twice before! Ramon finally got a new one, but I'm gun shy now. Have a great week, Marigene! Gorgeous!

Beautiful Spode, but I am so jealous of those gorgeous chargers! Great job of putting everything together. I have always thought Frontenac was gorgeous, but I have not started collecting that pattern - I have a silver problem, already!!!

I think those are some of the loveliest dishes I've seen in a while. I am not a blue personally generally, but for some reason I really love blue dishes and linens.

Your linens, of course, are just perfect with them.
