Patriotic Challenge

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Oklahoma who have lost so much this week.

Kathleen's challenge for a patriotic table really was a challenge for me. I don't have much in the way of patriotic dishes or centerpieces.

I started with a red and white polka dotted runner and matching napkins. I used simple white napkin rings. I used two napkins as a runner on the short side of the table.

I chose a white Gibson Regalia dinner plate as a charger. To the Regalia I added a Staffordshire Blue Liberty dinner plate and on top of that is a red/white checked salad plate.

The glassware is are my favorite Artland Iris in cobalt.

The flatware is Rogers 1847 Plain and Oneida Forever, circa 1939.

The centerpiece is a pedestal plate with apples, a red, white and blue rooster and a little container paint to look like a flag. I forgot to buy some red and white flowers to put in it...the only thing I have in the yard are dark pink roses and lots of iris, neither of which would have been suitable.

Thank you for taking the time to visit today. Do let me know you have been here.

What do you mean you don't have anything patriotic?.....you couldn't get a table much more patriotic than the beautiful one you've created here! Love it....

I love your polka dot and your different patterned dishes, Marigene. The checkered salad plates look so pretty on the floral blue ones. I love those cobalt goblets. Great job on the challenge.

Marigene, I think your "cross" shaped table runner & mats make the PERFECT statement for this memorable tribute to the fallen soldiers.

I ADORE your Cobalt "Iris" stemware..no wonder it is a favorite. I totally forgot all about my blue glasses. DUH??

Guess I'll have to make a note to use them for the 4th of July. Thanks for the reminder.

Hope you have a safe & touching Memorial Day.

fondly,
Rett

This is perfect, Marigene! Sometimes we have to be pushed a little to find what we've had all along (sort of like The Wizard Of Oz!!). I love all of your plates and the glasses are wonderful! I love how you used the apples as the centerpiece...very clever!

Jane

It's so cheerful Marigene, with the red dotted runners...and the Liberty plates are perfect for the holiday...I might have used them without the cute checkerboard plates just because they seem so patriotic to me. And your cobalt goblets are gorgeous. For not 'having anything' I think you created something quite stunning.

Well Marigene, for not having anything patriotic, you certainly did a fantastic table! I am in LOVE with the polka dot runner and I want one too. Your rooster is strutting his stuff and is so Americana! Dianne

I'm with Dianne up above me! If you don't have very much, then what's up with this???!?!?!?!? This is outstanding! Way to think outside the box, girlfriend!!!!!!!!!! You have GOT to know by now that this is the sort of thing that gets my engines revved! I love it when someone takes the "norm" and turns it into something that really piques one's interest and puts creativity into overdrive!!! I love the dishes, the apples (like Mom's apple pie...how much more American that THAT can you get??!??!), and the fact that you made it all look effortless. Get down with your bad self, Marigene!!!

I hope you guys have a great holiday weekend. Ramon and I are going to hang with my folks on Sunday for a bit, and then probably grill a little something-something on Monday. Meds be damned....I'm having a margarita this weekend!!! :-) Take care!!!

this is totally different, and I love it! The polka dot runners and napkins are my favorite part. They have a country whimsy to them. My second favorite part is the red checked dishes. The whole thing is just "patriotically" perfect.

For not having much patriotic, you certainly created a beautiful table. I love red, white and blue in the summer. I don't have anything either and I'm feeling very disappointed that I don't after seeing all the pretty things in Blogland this week!

Oh my gosh those polka dots are super cute! And the plate with the church actually made me say "wow". I love anything toile or with a toile-look. I'm late in catching up on blogs I follow, been so busy helping hubby build his shed, so I'm just seeing your Mem. Day table. Really great! Take care

You did a great job!! I thought the same thing when I started tablescaping. Of course I've been adding stuff but the dishes are my Fiesta. The new color, Lapis, should be out soon and it will make for a better blue for a patriotic table.
