A Tribal Table

I needed something calming after all the color of the last month with the Easter settings. I found this piece of zebra fabric several months ago to cover a small foot stool. There was more than enough left for a table runner. Right now I just have it folded, not sewn. I am calling this my tribal table!

I pulled out the double sided black and white polka dotted napkins, then started on the dishes and glassware.

The plate stack began with white wood chargers, a large white dinner plate, being used as a charger, a black dinner plate and finally a black and white transferware salad plate.

I chose solid black glassware.

The flatware is International. I still haven't sat down to look up the pattern, one day soon!

I had tried a couple different black napkin rings, then remembered black masks I bought a couple years ago for a NYE tablescape, but never used. We can pretend they are tribal masks.

The alstroemeria and carnations were still looking good from the Easter table, so they served as the centerpiece on this table.

The last picture is the rolls I made for a family dinner with family, that I ended up not being able to go to, due to my back being out of whack for a few days...it seems to be almost back to normal, now.

Non-Traditional Valentine Table!

I am not big on Valentine's Day decorations or china. I am doing my version of a Valentine's table...yes it does include a little bit of green!

The starting point of this table were the linens. Yes, they could be used for Christmas, too...you all know by now that I dance to my own tune!

The dishes start with a bright red overly large dinner plate, that I am using for the charger. A white dinner plate, red and white salad plate and red soup bowl round out the placesetting. 

The flatware is Oneida Louisiana.

The glassware dark red stems Cris d'Arques Antique.

A couple red mercury glass type candle holders with red candles and a mercury glass stemmed candle holder make up the centerpiece. I was going to do this table last week and had some gorgeous Gerbera daisies for the centerpiece, but this week they don't look so good, so just used candles!

It's Not A Fall Table!

Another week has passed and it is time for Tablescape Thursday with Susan of Between Naps On The Porch. Thanks for hosting this weekly meme, Susan.

Inspiration for this week's table were the Laurie Gates dinner plates I found at TJMaxx for $1 each. I hit the jackpot as there were not the usual 2 or 3, but 4 of them! They are dark cocoa brown with red, orange, green and yellow.

My daughter walked in and wanted to know why I was doing a fall table...told her, "no, it could be is a warm weather table with all the bright colors. Green for grass, brown for the bark on the trees, red for Gerbera daisies, orange for marigolds and yellow for buttercups...see, it is a warm weather table"!

I have used Waechtersbach Orange Peel salad plates, which is a bright orange.

The unmarked soup bowl is a true red.

The bread/butter or appetizer plate is Taylor, Smith & Taylor's Lu-Ray Pastels in yellow. I tried to get a close up but it doesn't show the true color, which is a really pretty shade of buttery yellow. I tried it with the flash...made it look white.

The flatware is Rogers Deluxe Plate Gracious 1939.

The glassware is a really nice brown, not amber at all. I have no idea who the maker or what the pattern is.

I didn't have anything specific in mind for a centerpiece so I used oranges, lemons and candles in a wooden tray.

Table overall. At the last minute a added a small vase of tiny white mums to the table.

My Favorite Color...

It is almost time to make my weekly pilgrimage to Between Naps On The Porch for Tablescape Thursday. Many thanks to Susan for hosting my favorite meme.

The inspiration for the table this week was this gorgeous green and white tablecloth...actually, anything green could be my inspiration, as it is my favorite color. To enlarge any picture, just click on it.


Dinner plates are Royal Wessex England, with a pretty ivy border. I haven't been able to positively identify the pattern name, but found an e-Bay seller calling them Verdigris Churchill and another Verdigris English Ivy. It really doesn't matter, I like them!


The plain white luncheon plates are unmarked; they appear to be quite old. They have a pretty border with reeds, flowers and pheasants.


The apple green salad plates are part of Waechtersbach's The Fun Factory series.


The green/white/gold dessert plate is Wood & Son Glenwood, which is a favorite of mine.


Plain white coupe soup bowls with a slightly scalloped rim are unmarked. I was told they were probably made by Homer Laughlin, but don't know for sure.


The flatware is the same pattern my parents received as a wedding gift in 1945. It is Rogers/International Gracious, circa 1939. Unfortunately, it wasn't my parents, theirs was destroyed in a house fire almost 40 years ago. I was excited to find the service for 12 on e-Bay recently. A few of the pieces were missing...but it did include grill forks, grill knives, teaspoons, oval soup spoons, round/cream soup spoons, large serving spoons, but nary a salad fork to be seen!


The glassware is crystal found at the thrift store. The maker and pattern are unknown to me, so if anyone has an idea, let me know, please.


Place setting.


I hemmed and hawed about using white hydrangea for the centerpiece. I ended up with just some pothos and Swedish Ivy wrapped around a metal plant pyramid painted green, flanked by white candles in green wooden candlesticks.




I love all the layering!
