Nature Challenge

This week Cuisine Kathleen challenged us to a nature theme...birds, bees, flowers and trees...I chose to do the only thing I could think of that used my favorite blue green combination...dragonflies. The salad plates are trimmed in blue and green, so I ran with it...

I started with square green woven mats. These were $3.98 for 4 at Savers.

To the mats I have stacked 3 plates...charger, dinner and salad.

The flatware is Oneida Louisiana.



The glassware are my favorite cobalt stems. They are such a vibrant shade of blue, I use them every chance I get.

I used a plain cobalt napkin held with the dragonfly napkin rings.

The centerpiece is just a low white bowl with a few tiny plants and a little squirrel holding a pine cone.

Another Green Fix!

It is time, once again, to join the rest of the tablescapers for eye candy to get us through another week of beautiful tables.

This week my inspiration came from a platter, a pitcher and metal candlestick, all in green, which by now everyone knows is my favorite color. This is a very simple table this week, no frills, not even a tablecloth.

The pitcher and 16-inch platter were found taped together at Savers for only $6.99. As soon as I spotted these on the lowest shelf mixed in with flower pots I knew they were Bordallo Pinheiro before I ever turned them over. I have no clue what the patterns are on either piece, but know they are not a set.

I started with a rattan-like charger, added a white Gibson dinner plate, which were $2.99 for a set of 4. I then added a green salad plate, a birthday gift from my friend, Kathleen of Cuisine Kathleen a few years ago. I topped the salad plate with a plain white soup bowl. The soup bowls were 25¢ each at ARC Thrift Store a couple of years ago.

The green and white napkins have been around for eons, too.

The centerpiece started with green 17" tall metal candlesticks, found at Savers for $5.99 each, which is more than I usually like to pay, but, they were green! I used the platter, added those cute little white mini pumpkins with a handful of pecans...hey, I told you I would get mileage from those pumpkins!

Sorry the photos are so dark, it was a rainy day when I took most of them...it later cleared up and the sun came out.

Green With A Hint Of Blue

This week I wanted to do something with quite a bit of green, which is my favorite color. I wasn't sure if I should put another color with it or not...in the end, decided on a tiny bit of blue...so it is sort of monochromatic.

I started with a ruffled green placemat, green and blue plaid napkins and green beaded napkin rings.

The only solid green plates I own are some I found at TJMaxx a few years ago. They don't have a specific name, just a B in a shield.

To the dinner and salad plates I have added blue and white cream soup bowls. The soup bowls were an eBay purchase...$9.99 for six! They are Wood & Sons, Burslem, England Gay Day. I am not sure when they were made, but have been told the early 1900's. Unfortunately there were no underplates for the bowls...but that won't stop me from using them!

The sterling flatware is my favorite pattern, Frontenac, circa 1903-1974, made by International. It has the most beautiful lilies on the handles with intertwined vines. Most of the pieces I have are the early pieces some with monograms.

The green glassware is from thrift stores, of course.

The centerpiece bowl is also from the thrift store. It has no markings on the underside, but I think it is probably a fairly old piece of ironstone. Again this week I waffled on candlesticks...first I used white, then decided to use green...so you will see photos of both. Yes, they are thrift store finds, too. I like the table best with the green candlesticks.

A Vintage Table

The urge to do an aqua and green table hit the other day! I have had this vintage table cloth for quite awhile, so I started looking around to see what I could put with it. I remembered my sister, Judy had sent me some clear blue plates and white ones with aqua and green fruited rims. I pulled everything from the cupboards in those shades and this is what I came up with...it makes me smile.

When Irish Eyes Are Smiling...

I will be joining Cuisine Kathleen for her third annual Saint Patrick's Day Blog Crawl. Thanks for hosting, Kathleen.

There is no Irish blood in my body, but my favorite color is green...can that possibly count as being part Irish? If not, I will have to be like the many others and just be Irish for one day out of three hundred sixty five!

While at Savers a couple weeks ago I spotted something that looked hand crocheted...I hurriedly pulled it off the hanger...oh my goodness it was a good sized tablecloth in excellent condition. It is made of heavy cotton thread...who in the world would send a potential family heirloom to the thrift store? Mind you, I am not complaining, just having a hard time understanding why something that took countless hours to make wasn't wanted by a family member or at least a dear friend. The price was only $6.99. It will be considered my Irish lace for this post. I believe the pattern is called pineapple...if this is incorrect, could someone identify it for me?

One square of the tablecloth. There are 7 squares on the short side 8 squares on the long side; each square is a about 9"x9"...you can see how much work was put into making this.

I have used dark green metal charger plates topped with a creamy white dinner and salad plate. The colors in the soup bowls have always reminded me of a Beleek piece I had seen a long time ago...the pattern is Myott's Colleen, so that officially makes them Irish, right!

The shamrock napkins underneath the soup bowl were made from cotton fabric I had bought long ago. I used some of the fabric to jazz up the dark green linen napkins. The flatware is Oneida's Afterglow, circa 1958.

The glassware is Anchor Hocking Wexford, it may not be Waterford, but Wexford is a county in Ireland!
