Cabbage and Sunflowers!

Today is another really dark day, dark enough I had to turn the chandelier on to get a halfway decent picture. If we don't get some sunshine pretty soon I will be screaming!

I started with a black floral tablecloth and black woven chargers. The tablecloth is from Savers, I think.  The chargers were from a barn sale...I think someone sprayed painted them black as you can see the natural browns through in places. I paid $3.00 for six of them, so I can't complain too loudly, can I? I probably should have chosen something a little lighter in color due to the dark day, but really wanted to use this one.

The Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage leaf plates were a gift from my friend, Johanna, in Phoenix. They belonged to her late mother, but she wasn't married to them...she sent them to me as she knew they would be used with love. There is service for 8...large dinner plates 11¾" and luncheon plates 9¼". She also said there are 8 mugs, a tureen and a couple other pieces, but she ran out of bubblewrap...they will come at a later date. Thank you so very much JoJo...I am so fortunate to have the best friends in the world!

The white dinner plate is one you have seen numerous times, Wedgwood Hedge Rose. They were found at Goodwill.

The green handled Madeline flatware is from World Market.

I have used the green Ivima 1895 goblets again this week paired with green stemmed Cris d'Arques/Luminarc wine glass.

I chose black napkins and green napkin rings.

The centerpiece is a tall thin white pitcher with 4 sunflowers...one of my kitties is bound and determined to eat the sunflowers...there are certain flowers that she goes to great lengths to devour.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to visit today. I also want to thank all of my followers and everyone that leaves a comment...you have no idea what that means to a blogger!

I will be joining a few link parties and hope you follow me, too!

Oh my goodness Marigene, what a sweet friend you have in Johanna! That was the most thoughtful gift to send you those beautiful dishes, especially since you will use them so lovingly. Sunflowers just had to bring you happiness even on the dreary day. What a perfect pairing in those green goblets you used and the black tablecloth is so striking.

Definitely the black charger plates...and that they are larger enouch to go under the Bordallo charger is a real treasure. I love to use my Bordallo chargers, but I don't think there are any angels out there waiting to send me the dinner plates. You've created a magnificent tables cape...sunny day or not. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

I'm with you on the need for sunshine thing!!! This is just nutty! It's foggy out now, just like it was when we got up this morning. What's up with that??!?!?! I think the tornado watch has now been lifted, but we're still supposed to be keeping an eye to the sky for thunderstorms. Ugh!

You set a beautiful table, Marigene, and the bright colors dancing on the dark background are great mood lifters. So are the sunshiny yellow sunflowers! That was so sweet of your friend to send those dishes to you!!!!!!!! You will be able to enjoy those for years to come...and so will we through the beautiful tables you set with them! :-)

Hang in there. Sunshine predicted for Friday. I'll believe it when it happens!

What a wonderful friend to send those fabulous plates! I just adore cabbage leaf plates and those are special. Your tablecloth makes the dark lighting seem like it was planned for your mood - dark with pops of spring color! I agree - we are sick of cold and clouds.

Sunflowers....how I love them. In fact, I have them on my breakfast room table now but not sitting on such a wonderful cloth. I'd say it was wonderful to receive such a sweet gift from someone who knows ho much you like green.

Oh my gosh, it's been so gloomy here! I think we're supposed to see the sun this weekend unless mother nature pulls the rug out from under us again.

What a special friend and gift! Those sunflowers put at least a bit of sun in my day :)
