Independence Day Tablescape

I am using the Staffordshire Liberty Blue china for my Independence Day tablescape. Actually we will not be home, but visiting my husband's twin brother and wife in Ohio over the 4th.

The table is very crowded as I wanted to used several different pieces for everyone to enjoy. I had service for 24 but have downsized to service for 12 in this pattern. I have told you before that I got this in the grocery store one placesetting at a time. I think I had to purchase $25 in groceries in order to get each placesetting free. The serving pieces had to actually be purchased. I had to save $50 or $60 in order to buy the tureen, which was the most expensive piece in the set...that was quite a bit of money for me back in 1975.

Get yourself a drink, sit back and I will just tell you what scene is on each piece as the are many! Sorry for so many photos...

I started with a lace tablecloth and added a red woven placemat at each of the placesettings.

The dinner plate which has the North Church is sitting on an overlarge Gibson Regalia dinner plate which I am using as a charger.

I have used Wood & Sons Gay Day cream soup bowls for the salad course. They are the same beautiful blue and go pretty well with the Liberty Blue pattern. The underplate they are sitting on features Monticello.

The rolls will sit in the berry/sauce bowl which has a Betsy Ross scene on it.

The butter dish has Lafayette Landing at West Point on the lid.

The sugar and creamer will be used to hold dressing for the salad. The scene is another of  Betsy Ross on the covered sugar bowl and the creamer has Paul Revere.

The salt/pepper also have Paul Revere.

The oval serving bowl has The Minute Men.

The gravy bowl also has Lafayette Landing at West Point and the underplate has Governor's House in Williamsburg.

The round serving bowl has Fraunces Tavern.

The pitcher has the Old North Church.

The tureen has scenes from the Boston Tea Party on the bowl as well as the lid.

The 13" platter has Washington Crossing the Delaware and the 12", which isn't shown here, has the Governor's Mansion...there was no room on the table for that or the tea cups/saucers!

Also not shown are the tea cups and saucers. The scene on them is Paul Revere's Ride and Old North Church.
There are many pieces that I don't have...I am going to try to add some of those pieces I didn't acquire back in 1975 and there still are quite a few...

The stars and stripes napkins and napkin rings seemed appropriate for the table...I had forgotten I had them. The napkin rings are probably 25-30 years old and the napkins are some I found at Goodwill a couple years ago...and here I thought I had nothing patriotic in my stash! The flatware is 1847 Rogers Plain mixed with Oneida Forever and an unnamed Italian soup spoon.

The glassware is a plain blue tumbler, possibly Libbey, and the blue seeded wine stems by Artland.

Thanks for taking the time to visit today...come back next time.

Marigene, thanks for creating this post. I love getting to see all the different pieces in this pattern. It's fun to know someone who actually acquired these piece by piece when they were given as a promotion in 1975. I think these plates are so pretty and perfect for those of us who love patriotic things. Happy 4th of July! ~ Sarah

Oh Marigene, what a wonderful patriotic table!!!! What a collection of dishes you acquired at the grocery store back in 1975. I'll bet you're so thrilled every time you get the chance to use them I loved seeing all the different pieces and the history of each.

I love the Liberty Blue pattern Marigene and the different scenes on the pieces! So fun too, you were able to acquire them weekly by grocery shopping years ago! That's a promotion I would love to take advantage of :) Wishing you a safe trip & Happy Independence Day!

It really rocks when you're able to create something so pretty and so stately out of things you have had an enjoyed for years. Each time you use these dishes, you just HAVE to feel a sense of joy and pride that you were smart enough to invest in them! $60 or $70 is a lot for a tureen NOW as well as in 1975, so you were really ahead of your time!!!

I love it that you chose dishes and accoutrements that softly speak to the occasion. The 4th of July is a time to celebrate, but it doesn't always have to be picnic-y. (Not that I really think that's an actual word!)

I hope you can weather this weather we're having. The air is just soppy wet, isn't it??!?!! Yuck! I can barely breathe out there!!!

Beautiful table, Marigene! Enjoy the rest of your week!

So neat to know that this was originally a promotional item at the grocery store. Don't know how I missed them back in the day. I've admired them on several blogs, and your table is absolutely the most stunning that I've seen...sumptious and beautiful. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

WOW! Your dishes alone are very patriotic! I had to chuckle because I remembered your post where you said you didn't have anything patriotic for your table. I LOVE THOSE DISHES!!! Your table is beautiful!

Marigene, you could not have picked a more perfect set of dishes to celebrate our country's birthday! They are like a history lesson in every layer!!

As a sewist, I loved seeing the Betsy Ross one & I've actually been to the Govenors House in Williamsburg!

I love your pretty cobalt blue stems with everything & I have those same napkin rings! LOL

Great celebration tablescape with your preciously collected set of dishes. That tureen is magnificent!

The Liberty dishes are terrific, and I love that so many of the pieces represent a different story. I'd say they were a very good find in '75 and how wonderful that you still enjoy them.

I would love to be a guest at that table. I think it's great that you got them at the market so long ago and that you still have them. They must have seen a lot of holidays.

Beautiful, Marigene! I love a patriotic table. I have jury duty on July 3 and I think that's patriotic enough LOL. But seriously, I'll do some red white and blue on my table for two!
