The Mallards Have Landed

I have been going to do this table for a couple of years, but never got it worked in until now.
The large mallard tureen and individual tureens were from my husband's parents, circa early1980's. The little ones were used for the very first meal Howard made for me before we married...he did delicious tuna casseroles in them. There are 8 of them plus the large one.

The table topper, made in Italy, was a Christmas gift from Howard's cousin, Bev. Their dad's were brothers that lived to hunt and fish. The napkins are a pale yellowish beige.

I found 4 really tarnished copper charger plates at Savers for $5.99. I have cleaned them just enough to use them today. I think someone actually used them as plates by the looks of the knife scratched surfaces.

On top of the chargers are Wedgwood Patrician Golden Ivy (1962-1981) dinner plates. They are a creamy white with brown laurel, yellow and green ivy. I used a square salad in pale yellow as the underplate to the mallard soup bowl. They are marked Home on the underneath. The tureens have a large S on the bottom along with Portugal. I am wondering if the S stands for Secla?

The lime glassware is from TJMaxx a few years ago. They work so well this time of year.

The flatware is Rogers Gracious, circa 1939. This is the pattern that I grew up with.

I removed the candles, they just didn't work for me!

Thanks for taking the time to visit today...do come back the next time.

I will be joining Let's Dish/Cuisine Kathleen.

Oh those mallards are fabulous - I love any kind of figural dish - anything at all, and especially those.

I've been thinking of getting individual turkey tureens - but these are so much better - wonder how I missed those in the 80s. Lovely table.

What a pretty and masculine table -masculine is so difficult for me to do, but you have done it beautifully. The Mallard tureens are so unique and it's wonderful that they also hold the memory of Howard's first meal he cooked for you. That table topper is gorgeous, and so are those Wedgwood plates. Glad you finally got around to doing this table, because I really enjoyed seeing it. laurie

Kathleen, what a lovely FALL table you have set. I have always wanted a certain set of china that had hunting scenes on them. I doubt at this late date in my life I will ever have them. I love what you have done with this tablescape!

How very charming!! And perfect for the season. The Tuna Casserole made me smile---just the perfect thing for a first meal together, and served in such elegant vessels.

I doubt that you have four little hen-ducks hidden away in the china closet---they're not so showy in their drab demure pale feathers as the guys.

Just perfect for an Autumn feast!

rachel

PS Just before I met DH, a nice gentleman served me "Mallard en cocotte"---wrapped in bacon and braised on a bed of onion and fennel). But then I met the "Master of the Weber" and never looked back.
