A Table For The Squirrels!

The inspiration for this table...the squirrel salad plates I found at WalMart. My daughter loves squirrels. First they fell into the cart and later they jumped onto the table. I tried to find nuts in the shell, but none of the stores in the area have them in, yet.

I also found a burlap runner that I thought would be perfect for this particular tablescape. I am not crazy about burlap at all, it stinks, is itchy and just not my "thing"! It reminds me of the chickens we raised when my kids were small...they were stinky, mean hens!

The squirrels are the star of the table so I kept the place settings very simple. Starting with a black woven charger I added a mocha Gracious Goods dinner plates and then the BH&G squirrel plate. They are part of the Heritage Collection. I saw red fox plates, but there were only a couple, so I passed on them. One year I traipsed all over the countryside trying to find enough plates to do a placesetting of another pattern...not fun.

The stemware is a brown Noritake Provincial water goblet.

I can't help myself...the flatware is Oxford Hall Fashion Wear in white. In real life it is a cream color, possibly from age or maybe it really was a creamy white to begin with.

The napkins are a plain chocolate with a beige/white gingham checkered one inside. The napkin fold is called a shield, I folded down the brown lower point as I used two napkins instead of the usual one.

This centerpiece was fun to build...starting with a large woven handled tray (that I use when I serve pizza, perfect size for one of my stones), candles, metal candle holder, mini pumpkins, several squirrels in different sizes, an owl, a pair of quail, real and faux maple leaves.

Thanks for visiting today...hope you will return next time.

Hi Marigene,
I love your Fall table, inspired by the squirrel plates. Aren't those plates adorable?? Your centerpiece looks so pretty and I love the napkin fold.
p.s. I'm not sure if you see my comments because they always come back to my email as a failed message. :-(

Beautiful table as usual, Marigene! I bought 2 squirrel and 2 fox plates from Walmart in Natchez but did not get a chance to use them since I am in FL. I love how you used all those squirrels.....Christine

Marigene, this is darling! Funny, I have a few faux squirrels that I have sitting around, but the real ones that wreck my garden and patio furniture cushions are not in my good graces. '-)
All the same, I adore your cute tablescape.

So cute. Even though the colors are traditional (which I love) adding the cute animals is new and adorable. Kids would enjoy the fun of this setting as much as the adults.

Marigene, All of these squirll critters are perfectly adorable! I love the centerpiece and the squirll plates. They would have hopped right into my cart too. I couldn't agree more about burlap, I love the way it looks but as soon as I start working with it I start sneezing, so I use it outside. I sure got a few chuckles reading about your chickens!
Happy November........
