One Or The Other...

This tablescape started with a large piece of tartan fabric I have had for quite awhile. It has been tucked in with some tablecloths that I recently went through. I wanted to do a really simple table with nothing competing with the tartan.

I knew I would be using yellow Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage leaf dishes to pick up the very thin yellow stripe in the fabric which you can see is mainly black. I first tried black with the yellow, but it just didn't speak to me today. I then tried red which is another thin stripe in the fabric. To me this one looks so much cheerier than more black. Gotta have a lot of color on my table!

The glassware are citrine bubble glass tumblers.

Again, I have used the International stainless. I don't have a clue what the pattern is.

This is the table with the black dinner plate.
Which table spoke to you?

Thanks for taking the time to visit today...hope you will come back next time. Have a great weekend!

I will share in the fun at

I think they are both beautiful. the black is beautiful and maybe more dramatic, but Ilike the one with the red more. Love, love, love the color red, and it just wakes up your table.

Oh, your dishes are so pretty, love the wavy edges.

Wow - they both are stunning - the one with red for the way the colors pop - and the one with the black for the way the colors blend and feel so smooth. Of all the table setting blogs that I read I think I like yours best - the dishes don't get lost in a lot of extras.

I like the black plate table better but the tablecloth looks blue in the picture....the yellow stands out more with the black plates....but the red table is also cheerful!
Love you,

Love the fabric and I'm swooning over the yellow dishes! I like it with the red a bit better! You do have quite the collection of Bordello Pineheiro.

Oh, Marigene! You had me at "tartan". You could have used orange and purple dishes and I still would have loved this post! I do think, however, that the red plates are just so bright and cheery...

Both looks are winning combinations, but the yellow and red are my favorite. I'm a Chi O ~ cardinal and straw! ;-)
This table brought some much needed sunshine to my day, dear friend!

I love them both Marigene! With the red plates it is a nod to upcoming Valentine's Day and February, and with the black, it is a sophisticated winter table~ it's amazing how different they look a feel with just one color change! Great fabric!

Marigene - your table is lovely. I am going with the red, not usually a red person and I love usually love the sophistication of black - but the red and yellow and the tartan were made for each other. Your cabbage leaf plates are so special. Thanks for stopping by, too.

Well, I have been scrolling back and forth and I truly like them both.
However, I will have to go with the black-the red is so happy but to me it took my eye away from the tartan,
I also noticed your beautiful and thriving plants-so pretty!

Gorgeous tartan! Love it! I like the black plates, much more dramatic, but both are gorge!

I like the brightness of the red and yellow the best with the tartan table cover. I do love yellow and black too, but with this table the red looks gorgeous.

Your plants do look so happy and healthy in the background. My orchids are starting to bloom in the Eastern window of the bedroom upstairs. I will have to start bringing them down to the dining room so they can get some more light during these dreary Winter days.

The red is definitely a better choice than the black. Lovely tablescape with your wonderful tartan cloth.
